What I'm doing
👨🏻💻 Switching teams at work - Okay, more like shedding responsibilities so we can actually get stuff done. There used to be four of us in charge of maintaining and modernizing nine projects. Our development organization is shuffling and our team is tasked to pioneer a move to the cloud and modernize some projects to have our division become a Unicorn. We're sticking with four of those projects we previously maintained, adding seven people to our team, and handing the other projects off to two other teams of ten people each. We finally have time to code again!

🏔 Heading to Kalispell to see my niece! It's a ten hour drive, if you're reading this in your email we're probably in a car. Sorry if next week's post is short.
What I'm listening to
✊🏿 The Killing of Breonna Taylor, Part 1 and Part 2 - If you believe that black lives matter but you aren't closely following the movement, or if you don't believe in the movement because 'All Lives Matter' and BLM folks are anti-cop socialists - you can still be against no-knock raids and demand justice for Breonna Taylor.
If you don't have time to listen, know that Taylor's ex-boyfriend was involved in drug dealing, Louisville police thought they might find something at her place and illegally executed a no-knock warrant. Taylor and her current boyfriend were in bed and called out, not receiving a response. Her boyfriend fired one shot in self defense at the people knocking their door off its hinges, striking an officer. Police returned fire, killing Breonna by shooting her eight times. One detective fired 10 shots blindly into the apartment. No one attempted to give Breonna any medical assistance as she lay dying, officers at the scene had even told the ambulance on standby to leave before the raid. No one has been charged.
What I'm watching
🏫 Community, Season 3 - If you need a break from current events it's hard to beat Donald Glover trying to escape being an A/C repair man.
What I'm following
🌊 Microsoft's underwater data centers - Two years ago Microsoft sank a tube containing a few server racks and nitrogen off the coast of Scotland. They pulled it up this summer, and the servers are in better shape than their mainland counterparts. Microsoft has proven that not only can long-term underwater computing be done, but it's actually more reliable than traditional data centers. They've even patented using tidal motion and the servers' waste heat for energy.
🔥 The fires, still - Air quality here in Boise has just kept on getting worse. Last week I joked about an AQI of 150 being better than 400... Well it got to 200 which means we aren't heading outdoors for exercise. Climate change is real and the government can enact regulation and fund wildfire prevention, but Trump's answer? California forgot to rake the forest floors again. I don't think he even realizes that he's President at this point and could send federal aid to help out with that raking.
